Truck goes airborne, lands on top of several vehicles after striking building in Brockton

BROCKTON, Mass. — An investigation is underway after a pickup truck struck a building, launched into the air, and landed on top of several vehicles in Brockton early Friday morning, officials said.

Emergency crews responding to a report of a crash in the area of 1007 Montello Street around 2:34 a.m. found what appeared to be a Ford Ranger resting on top of a pile of mangled vehicles.

According to investigators, the driver of a pickup truck was driving south on Montello Street when they lost control of the vehicle, hit a fire hydrant, crashed into the front porch at 1007 Montello Street, struck the corner of that building and then hit three other parked cars belonging to Filipe Alves and his family before coming to rest on top of two of them.

Amanda Bastien’s father owns several auto shops up the street and caught the crash on camera. Security footage captured the silver pickup truck driving south on Montello Street when the car appeared to turn then launch into the air and flip over.

I just pray that the people there they’re safe, they’re okay and that they figure out who did it, what happened and why,” said Bastien.

“It’s really bad really bad the situation is really bad it’s just not his car it’s his sons and his brother all three cars,” said Alves.

The Brockton Fire Department said the driver then jumped out and fled the scene after the wreck before police arrived.

The security footage went on to show multiple people running around after the wreck before taking off up the street.

One man who lives nearby said his surveillance cameras caught first responders on scene.

“Was he distracted was he under the influence, what happened?,” said Bastien.

The building that was struck sustained minor damage.

No additional details were immediately available.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Brockton police.
