MassDOT: Lane closures over the weekend for I-93 barrier replacement

BOSTON — Work to replace barriers on I-93 will shut down some lanes on the interstate in Boston Friday evening and through the weekend, The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced.

The overnight and off-peak temporary lane closures will allow crews a safety barrier between traffic and their work.

From MassDOT:

The work will occur on I-93 north and southbound between Southampton Street and the Savin Hill/Neponset Circle area. The approximate hours for the overnight and off-peak lane closures on I-93 north and southbound will be as follows:

Friday, June 15, to Saturday, June 16

  • From 9 p.m., to 11 p.m., on Friday, June 15: A single lane closures
  • From 11 p.m., Friday, June 15, to 6 a.m., Saturday, June 16:  double lane closures
  • From 6 a.m., until 11 a.m., on Saturday, June 16: single lane closures
  • After 11 a.m., on Saturday, June 16: All lanes of travel open.

Saturday, June 16, to Sunday, June 17

  • From 8 p.m., to 11 p.m., on Saturday, June 16: A single lane closures
  • From 11 p.m., Saturday, June 16, to 6 a.m., Sunday, June 17:  double lane closures
  • From 6 a.m., until 11 a.m., on Sunday, June 17: single lane closures
  • After 11 a.m., on Sunday, June 17: All lanes of travel open.

Sunday, June 17, to Monday, June 18

  • From 8 p.m., to 11 p.m., on Sunday, June 17: A single lane closures
  • From 11 p.m., Sunday, June 17, to 5 a.m., Monday, June 18:  double lane closures
  • After 5 a.m., on Monday, June 18: All lanes of travel open.

Signage and messaging will be in place to notify drivers of these impacts. MassDOT encourages the public to be mindful of potential traffic impacts. Those traveling through the area should reduce speed and use caution. The schedule for this work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
